Recycling Crayons

My older son, Brody, wanted to use our old crayons that are broke up and make new crayons.  So last night while Caden, my youngest son, was still napping we went for it!  We unwrapped quite a few crayons, and sorted them in piles by color.

We sorted them by color after we sprayed cooking spray in the muffin tins.  This is so they don't stick after they have been melted.  While this is going, make sure and pre-heat your oven to about 300 degrees F.   Put them in the oven and cook them for about 7-8 minutes.  When they are done, they will be melted.  Be careful taking them out of the oven.  Sit them in a space where the kids won't get them til they are cooled off and wait for them to cool down.  I used a toothpick to stir them around a little bit to make sure they were thoroughly melted.  We also did one mixed color one, so we made that look like a marble design.

Enjoy the new crayons! You can also use candy molds or soap molds.  Just heat the crayons up in an old soup can them our them into the molds to make different fun shapes for your kids to enjoy coloring with.  These would also make great party favors for birthdays!
